With our ground breaking TrueTexture technology, we take original, hand-painted pieces, scan them, and use three-dimensional printing techniques on high-quality linen canvas, allowing our customers to access beautiful pieces of artwork that look and feel exactly as the artist intended, virtually indistinguishable in their replication of the strokes, textures and movement of the original.
Our incredible TrueTexture product is on offer exclusively to approved Urban Road Wholesale customers and framers. The collection focuses on large-scale artwork, and unique, Australian designs. Covering an array of themes – from traditional Aboriginal, to feminine florals, striking abstracts, and classic Australian landscapes – the artworks are ready-to-frame, and available in a range of size options.
In collaboration with the Warlukurlangu Artist Community of Yuendumu & Nyirripi in the Northern Territory, Australia, we are proud to introduce to you our very first collection of Aboriginal artworks, available exclusively as a part of our TrueTexture collection.
Each artwork in the collection showcases a songline, inspired by a Dreaming or ‘Jukurrpa’, and has been uniquely interpreted by the artist, using traditional Warlpiri iconography as the foundation of the design to represent different elements of the Jukurrpa. Building upon these traditional elements, each artist has added their own personal technique, style and flair – some drawing inspiration from learned techniques at the Art Centre run workshops, others being instructed in the stories and designs of their traditional ancestral culture by older generations of Parents and Grandparents.
The Jukurrpa are brought to life by the incredible complexity and intricacy of each songline, dot and brushstroke; the colour palettes raw and unrestrained – each individual piece a bold and breathtaking artistic statement. The resulting collection is a technicoloured patchwork of Dreamings, where timeless tradition and richness of culture are sewn together by an authentic community filled with collaboration, love and respect.
By using our ground-breaking TrueTexture technology to scan and reproduce these artworks, we’ve been able to maintain the original colour, texture and movement of each piece, ensuring that the authenticity and integrity of the artworks is uncompromised, and that each artist’s story is translated clearly and genuinely. With the artist’s endorsement, by producing and supplying authentic replications, we aim to allow the beauty and power of these stories to extend far beyond the limitations of a one-off piece, while also committing to invest a stream of financial ongoing support back into the Warlukurlangu community.
Successfully operating since 1986, the Warlukurlangu Artists Association is located in the town of Yuendumu in the Northern Territory of Australia and draws artists from all corners of the Central Desert region. The not for profit organisation has more than 600 members, all of whom are Aboriginal artists. The art centre is a popular enterprise activity, and provides social, cultural and economic rewards for artists and their families. Warlukurlangu is a cooperative art centre, described as the social and cultural epicentre of the community, providing its members with the materials to produce their art, as well as interactive workshops where members can learn traditional Walpiri painting techniques and iconography. The income from the sale of each artwork is distributed between the artist and the Warlukurlangu Art Centre.
